As the sun peeks over the horizon in Cambridge, my day as an HVAC service technician at C. Albert Matthews is already beginning. There’s something special about these early morning starts, when the Eastern Shore is just waking up.
6:00 AM – Starting the Day
The first thing I do is check our service dispatch system for urgent overnight calls. Winter months are especially busy with furnace emergencies, and today is no exception. My fully-stocked service van is ready to go – a mobile workshop containing everything from basic tools to sophisticated diagnostic equipment.
Morning Rounds
Today’s schedule includes:
• Preventive maintenance on a commercial HVAC system in Easton
• Furnace inspection for a longtime customer in Cambridge
• Responding to emergency heating calls as they come in
The Mid-Day Rush
By noon, I’ve completed two scheduled maintenance visits and diagnosed a failing blower motor. What makes this job rewarding is knowing that every service call means helping someone restore comfort to their home or business.
Afternoon Challenges
The afternoon brings:
• Troubleshooting complex system issues
• Educating customers about maintenance
• Coordinating with our office team for parts and scheduling
• Documentation and service records updating
End of Day
As the day winds down around 5:00 PM, I ensure my van is restocked and ready for tomorrow. Being an HVAC technician means being prepared for anything – from simple maintenance to complex repairs, all while providing the professional service our customers expect from C. Albert Matthews.
The satisfaction of solving problems and helping our community stays with me as I head home, knowing tomorrow will bring new challenges and opportunities to serve our Eastern Shore neighbors.
